Meet Coach Kayla Shorma

founded Dreams Come True Dance in 2009 with a mission to teach the love and art of dance through technique fun and flair. Kayla’s life-long passion for dance began with donning her first dance shoes at age 3. Over the years she has learned and studied multiple dance forms including Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pointe, Clogging, Tap and Lyrical. Coach Kayla got married in August 2010 to her husband Paul. They live in Grand Rapids with their little Chihuahua Autobahnz. Kayla enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, being on the lake and cooking. She loves sushi, picking flowers and traveling.

Kayla has danced in more than 35 performances before graduating high school. As a teen,
Kayla was offered the opportunity to student teach alongside her dance instructors and was later selected to teach classes on her own at the studio she studied at.
In High School she also attended workshops by James Sewell and his Company of Dancers, Galina Mezentseva, Alvin Ailey and others. Kayla graduated from Grand Rapids High school in 2003. During College she studied children’s health and received her Associates Degree in Childhood Development.
Prior to opening her dance studio in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Kayla coached gymnastics for four years and started a small dance program where she coached. The dance program flourished and expanded to become her now 200-plus student base today.
Coach Kayla believes Dance is a life-long learning process and she continues to participate in classes and workshops. She also gives her students many opportunities to work with other instructors.
In the summer of 2010 DCT Dance was honored to have Valery Lantratov (Artistic Director or the Russian Ballet Foundation) come and teach their students.
Kayla strives to not only teach her students the art, technique and love of dance but also confidence, grace and poise.
